This month the weather has been rather cool. This is the kind of weather which makes lazy lumps out of all of us. The eyes are funny organs as they coordinate and play tricks on us. The impact of the climate on us is so intense that the eyes naturally shut down like a computer when encountered with grey days. Sometimes our body forces us to lie down even when we don't want to.
I know some people think am only blaming the weather for my own laid back nature. But am sure there are days when you just want to lie in bed not get up at all. The sound of heavy rain and thundering clouds provides comfort to the soul. Indirectly it makes us seek warmth either from a nice thick quilt or a person we cuddle up to for life.
In some ways weather does have its good points. The other side of the coin is not less bright. Those are the times we are forced to abandon the bed due to prior appointments. Responsibilities take the better of us as we battle time and rains with an umbrella. Imagine using an umbrella which is man made to fight against the rains that are god-sent. Thinking of it makes me laugh.
Every time it rains heavily I feel god is having a really long bath. I can only visualise as I cannot draw for nuts. Otherwise I could have drawn out a god in the tub. But there is no real figure of who god is. The god I perceive is different from the gods others perceive. The only universal aspect that joins all is the term "God" that refers to all gods and god fearing humanity.
Thundering clouds and lightening reminds me of Zeus as well who was referred to as the head of all gods. Greek gods and goddesses continuously come alive in animations like Hercules. Globally the need has risen to make more animations out of age old tales. Now things no longer work through word of mouth like olden times. Kids have a short attention span and what really captures their eye is animae. (Ex. Like Ramayana and Hanuman) The visual effects used in these kind of animae not only grabs the attention of kids but also teaches them valuable lessons.( Like Aesop’s Fables)
But nothing can replace the personal touch a grandpa or grandma adds while they read or tell a story aloud to their grandchildren.
I once purchased a magnet for my grandmother which she proudly displays on her wardrobe. “God could not be everywhere, SO he created Grandmothers." That rings so true. No matter where ever we go in life or what ever we do we should never forget the ties that made us. Relationships build us and our character. Without these bonds in life we are nothing.
Whenever I write I wonder why I slip into philosophy. One of the greatest philosophers of all time Aristotle felt personal fulfilment lay partly in Happiness. He described Happiness as “the activity of the soul." We consider our elders wiser as they have had their baggages of experiences which are sad and happy.
Like Aristotle puts it: "It is only when a man is old can we truly judge whether his life has been a happy one."
And it is true. When I look back at the days with my grandparents- they are the most memorable days and times of my life. The time I spent with them undoubtedly had an impact on the person I am today.
Shall end off on another quote of Aristotle's:
" For one swallow does not make a summer, nor does a day; and so too one day or a short time, does not make a person blessed and happy."
P.S: Sorry for meandering on topics endlessly...was just following the flow of my thought! ;)
