Have you ever made a really big mistake?

The title above was used by the film Norbit promoting it as being USA's number one film that guaranteed laughter.

At such times when films like Norbit or Epic movie don't appeal to me, I always feel it's better to watch movies in a language I don't understand. Norbit is meant to be comedy but I personally feel it displays vulgarity uncalled for. Epic movie on the other hand shows how people are hard up on emulating big time movies to draw in the crowds for just some time.

What is the message in the end? Or what is the need for such films is a question that requires no answers. Such movies need no brains or thought. The movie, A Beautiful Mind- sparks with intelligence and offsets silly movies like this. Movies like Gladiator, Sliding doors,The Sixth sense, Quinceanera( a mexican movie), The Green mile, Roman holiday are worth watching at least a couple of times. Spending money on such movies is not a waste of money or thought.

But with movies like Norbit, Epic movie, Ghost rider I am made to wonder where Hollywood is heading. On the other hand, Eddie Murphy's performance in Dream Girls is commendable which earned him a nomination in the Oscars.

Given a choice I would rather watch Letters from Iwo Jima or Paris le Tai me. Sometimes it's always good to refer to movies in other languages for inspiration. Even Tamil movies do the same thing. When the old wine in a new bottle fails to sell- they turn to Telugu movies for that extra zing. I have watched Telugu movies and I certainly feel their take on certain issues is fresh. No wonder Tamil movies remake Telugu hits in Tamil. But I guess it all depends on timing.

But with movies like Babel, Note on a scandal, Dream girls, The Queen all lined up to woo the crowds am still hopeful of better movies to come. The future looks bright and happening. And NO I have not made that big mistake yet...

I had great expectations for Babel... but it sucked :(. I mean, great acting all over, but what a pointless movie...
