Blah! Blah! Blah
Ha now that's a start to a new dawn....a new day and to a new piece of writing. Be it dawn, day or writing everything sounds new as we forever try to adapt it to accommodate change. CHANGE hmm now isn't that a very strong word? But I am not at a loss of words to replace that one.
Some things can never be replaced in life. Be it a word, a song or even a person we love the most. Our feelings and thoughts vary in relation to some people we value in our life. We can never get over people who have been closest to our heart. Why? Becuz we don't always get answers. Our emotions are confusing creatures - they can either calm us down after a huge turmoil or break us up into a million pieces. It either shatters us or reduces our burden as we slowly learn to let go.
Thinking about how we feel and bottling it up within us will only prolong the period of depression. I know the last two times I have written has been purely about emotions. Weird isn't it, how emotions eat us up and at the same time play such an important role in our lives. We learn to respect our emotions because disregarding it will only cause further damage to our personality - our dissatisfied self.
When we read playwrights like Ben Johnson what amazes me so much is the way he toyed with human emotions to bring about the four kinds of humour. According to him the four primary humours are blood, phlegm, choler (yellow bile) and melancholy( black bile) dominated a person's temperament. An equal mix of these liquids means the person is healthy mentally and physically. But if one of the liquids are in excess it affects the personality drastically shaping him/her as either Sanguine, Phlegmatic, Choleric or Melancholic.
In Ben Johnson's plays we see how each character is different and acts differently. The reactions vary as the liquid composition determine the characteristics of the individual being played on or off stage. That's the interrogatory mind of a human being for you. We are never satisfied. We need to know everything that lies around us and term it as a thirst for knowledge. We try to conquer things which are not within our reach by trying to reason out on the various aspects of life.
What we fail to understand is that some things are better left unsaid. Only time and
experience can teach us these valuable lessons. Judith Wright in her poem, 'Eve to her Daughters' relates how men want all the answers and want to do away with all the mysteries that shrouded reality. She expound on the philosophy of life and expresses how lopsided men were turning out to be by thinking that they could ultimately conquer all existence denying even god his rightful place.
At times reality can be so shocking yet eye-opening. What we think exists and what does not depends on the mind of the individual. Like Hamlet's never ending procastination on whether or not he had to take the life of his malicious uncle. Rumination, procastination, bottling up are just ways of tearing apart the soul.
It's high time that we released ourselves from this artificial bondage and just play the role we were given. Like Shakespeare said:
All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages.
So just live your life and let it be the way it is. Dont let emotions tarnish your image or let constant rumination damage the natural flow of your thoughts. We all are meant to age and grow through life, like Shakespeare said:
Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.
(As You Like It, 2. 7. 139-167)
Whether life is a chocolate or ice-cream, both seem equally appealing to me.
Don't waste it, just cherish and enjoy it!
