Ramblings of a night owl...

When is the good time to write I wonder as I lay awake at night. It's nearly 12:38 AM in Singapore and surprisingly I am still wide awake. Yes. There are times when my shutter closes without my knowledge, but that is purely unintentional. I watch the fan blowing my dog's hair as she sleeps motionlessly on my bed. Touch wood! I sometimes wish I could fall asleep like her at the drop of a hat.
Na, not suddenly but eventually...maybe after a feel good movie or a good book or a good meal. Not into the deep slumber of death which we are unaware of, but that temporary sleep peppered with dreams, nightmares and snores.
Did you know that dogs dream too? When I hear my dog make moaning sounds in her sleep, I realise that she has dreams too- maybe of a big bowl of vanilla ice cream or a nice beefy treat. How small their desires seem in contrast to ours...yet how discontent we are with the lives we lead. I might be envious of how my dogs lead such a carefree lifestyle, but over time, I realise that being a dog is not easy as they constantly have to appease their owners who are forever stressed.
Like a quote of Mark Twain goes, "The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up."
You needn't be a human to know that...
