Whenever I see cookie peering into the pedestal fan I feel she's looking into a crystal maze trying to find out her future. The future is of great interest to all of us.
Back in India people spend just loads to find out about their future. Not only is palm reading popular but also face reading and foot reading. I wonder how the fine lines on the sole of my foot would tell anyone about what my life held for me. But people believe in it so faithfully that no one has a heart to question what lies beneath.
Once as I sat by the Marina beach side chatting with a friend, an old lady with a stick approached us. It looked like she had popped out of the covers of Cinderella and put on Indian garbs to entice us into a world of her own. I was surprised she didn't turn the pumpkin into a carriage on the tap of her wand. She was a face reader who was trying to make a living by engaging couples and family with her ancient mariner look. According to her my face glowed with fortune. That triggered off a totally different thought process. Did she see some thing I didn't? Perhaps some gold specs glittered on my cheek. What the lady assumed was gleaming was nothing other than my lotion I bought from body shop which incidentally came with gold shimmer. Little did she know that the cream was responsible for the radiance not her wishful thinking.
On another outing with my friend at the beach, we met with the card reader who used a parrot to single out our destiny. Our destiny cost us 11 bucks. We couldn't care less as the evening breeze chilled our skin and we enjoyed the sun slowly set on the horizon. The parrot was trained to pick out a card for us and we were only too happy to oblige in this game of luck.
For what is life without fun and frolic...?

I remember that I had a similar incident by the Marina Beach in 1994 when probably the lady approached me with a wand in hand.....geez...memories.....
