Sleeping Beauties

When I notice people sleeping I watch their stomachs rise and fall. It follows a rhythm- rhythm of breath. What amazes me is the temporary death we experience in that short span of time. Sometimes when my grandma sleeps she looks so still that I keep checking her breathing. I don't know whether it's the sudden arrival of death which makes me so paranoid.

Life is anyway full of parodies. Like as if we need more to fill the void. Everyday we almost die when we sleep. There are some who get up at regular intervals while others sleep like logs. The factors that distinguish them are the nature of lifestyle they live in.

There is a certain stillness that sleep brings. If you watch a new born baby sleep, it will smile from time to time. Babies seem to possess extraordinary capabilities to interact with the ghosts moreover supernatural elements which we are forced to let go as we adopt the practicality of life.

How I wish we could just remain children sometimes. You can gurgle, babble all you want. A child always has an audience. But as he grows into an adult things change. That is when you encounter reality- reality that is life.
