A break in Bali

The last week we took a trip to Bali. The people were extremely warm and welcome. Every body greeted us with a smile beginning from the driver who picked us to the people who resided in our street in which our hotel was.

Bali boasts of a majority of Hindus. The people there love Indians and do not lose the chance to ask us at least once whether we were Hindus or whether we knew Sharukh Khan and Amitabh Bacchan. The obsession with Bollywood is so much that the local television channel shows up to three Hindi movies a day.

Though the people of Bali are Hindus their culture is not similar as ours. They worship nature and do not idol worship like we do in India. They believe in re-incarnation- karma and cremation but the way they perform their rituals is very different. From the food to dressing style to worship Bali has its' own signature style.

Bali is also known for its' beautiful scenery. So don't forget to take your camera with you. Snorkeling and trekking are even very popular apart from the usual sunbathing rituals and surfing which Bali undoubtedly offers.

We went trekking to Mount Batur- a volcano. We woke up at 2 in the morning. It took us 1 and a half hour’s drive to get to the mountain and from there on about 2 and half hours to climb up the mountain. Though the distance was only 6kms the altitude and the steepness made the climb challenging and tiring. But thanks to a few good guides we were able to climb up and return down in one piece. With a stick in one hand and the guide's hand in the other we made it to the top and witnessed the sun rise beautifully on the horizon. When we got to the top we saw the crater and also how the steam produced by the volcano could make hard-boiled eggs.

Overall the trekking experience was exciting. We even went snorkeling and got to see fishes of various colours and types. In some places as we swam behind our guide I realized that it was really deserted. Only later when we got back to our resort, my mom mentioned that sharks lived in that water too. Hmm what a welcome we would have given them- a Jaws hug I guess.

The resort food was good. The swimming pool and Jacuzzi well maintained. We had drinks by the pool which made our stay even more memorable as we sipped and watched the sun set. So if you want to enjoy nature at its' fullest visit Bali. Believe me there's something in it for everyone.

From pubbing at Kuta to artist village in Ubud. From Sea side temple in Tanah Lok to tasty food in Jimberang. SO what are you waiting for? Isn't it time you took a holiday? I did. And believe me I have not felt better in days.
