TSUNAMI-DECEMBER 26th 2004
‘I will go
I will see…
I will conquer…’
As I consider these words
that design the poster,
I think back
To the year that has flown by,
These words never struck me ever before,
But now images
Reel before my eyes,
Of the dreadful Sunday,
Just before New Year,
When spirits soared high.
Now it has dampened the mood of all,
Half lie homeless,
Knowing not where to begin
To reconstruct the life they led
Neither knew…
That death would ride,
Those waves
That hijacked many lives.
Death smiled as she rode away,
Waves receded,
Lives faded.
She came…
She saw…
She washed away…
Millions of lives
in one big wave.
Now what is left,
are remnants that shade,
every newspaper that showcase detail,
Deducing life to the matter,
On the page.
They wring out emotions,
Making us numb to pain,
Harping daily on it,
Like a refrain…
…..‘I will go…
I will see
I will conquer.’
