Growing together!!!!

Some times when I don’t get connected to the net, I am fed up. Still I try not to give up. I try, try and try again till I see the spark of hope springing in the corner of my computer screen. The result is positive I know when the computer icon emits green signals. But till then I just have to stare at the computer screen and wish for something miraculous to happen. Even as I write now I see the light vaguely flickering snatching from me even the little hope I possess. I wish it would connect soon.

That’s the funny thing about technology. It can work wonders and at the same time also make life hell. In the early times man did everything manually. Be it the lighting of a fire with two stones or doing sums using his brains. But now advancement in technology has made everyone so lazy that they don’t even need to lift a finger to do anything. For the clothes there is a washing machine, for wet hair to dry quickly there is a dryer and for kids who wet the bed there are diapers. Every thing has been made and labeled with a price.

The consumer market creates everything that man wants and packages it neatly. All they have to do is to target the weakness and need of the consumer and the consumer will be on all his knees to just get that. Take India for instance, which house there does not have a television or a cell phone. The poor people who cannot afford a gas stove and still cook food stuffing coal in the mud stoves have cell phones and a television within the vicinity of their homes. Whether the food they eat is healthy or not these poor people are buying consumer durable goods on installment plans. Little do they know that they have to spend a lifetime repaying such huge amounts. But who cares? And who doesn’t desire worldly things.

Who doesn’t spend money in life? Well, we earn money to spend. To keep saving it up I consider as sheer stupidity. For what purpose or for whom are you saving it? Money is meant to bring happiness to near and dear ones. Not to count out everyday like a stingy king and keep it inside.

The real wealth can be acquired only by helping people in need with what you have. I admire my grandmother and grandfather in that respect. In their individual lives, they have faced so many troubles, but that hasn’t stopped them from helping others. You might think I am bragging. But when after a couple of years I see people returning to thank my grandmother I see in her eyes the sense of compassion and achievement. The glow I see is of the success in helping some one grow. Growth in an economy doesn’t only mean personal growth and wealth, but also helping others. To walk with the people is the motto, not to leave them behind. It’s a known fact that man will never be satisfied with whatever he has. Any subject whether its commerce or economics will tell you that. Man always has wants and that is how his personality is.

Just like the thirst for knowledge is never ending, the same way is the desire for things. When one want gets satisfied a new want arises. When we have something new we are happy with it. But the moment some one else has it too, we don’t like it. Be it cars or cell phones, we always want to compete with others although it doesn’t happen consciously. This is how the human mentality works and nothing can change something which has happened in the past, in the present and which will happen in the near future. This is how the human mind functions. But we cannot blame anyone.

The best thing we can do is to help others as we grow by sharing what we have. Am not being philosophical but just sharing my views on it. I do not wish to change anybody’s mind as everyone is vulnerable in life. They want the best. But so do I. It’s just that by giving a bit of what you have you can brighten a child’s day or somebody’s life. If that’s too much to ask for then just spend some time. For sometimes the quality time we spend with people works more wonders than just donating money and sponsoring them anonymously.
